Opera Software has released its latest State of the Mobile Web report, which also happens to be its final report for 2011. This report focuses on the most popular websites that people visited using its Opera Mini mobile browser.

The Norwegian company stated that for Opera Mini users, 2011 was the year of user-created content, with websites the likes of Wikipedia and Blogger seeing a significant increase in the number of unique visitors. Making it to the top of the lists are the search, social network and video sites Google, Facebook and YouTube.

The world’s most popular websites for 2011 on Opera Mini are:

1. google.com
2. facebook.com
3. youtube.com (climbed one spot)
4. vkontakte.ru (drops a place)
5. odnoklassniki.ru
6. yandex.ru
7. wikipedia.org (climbed an impressive four places)
8. my.opera.com
9. yahoo.com (down two spots)
10. twitter.com (up two places)

Opera Mini usage stats

During November there were more than 144.6 million users employing the Opera Mini browser, a 3.3% increase from October 2011. The number of webpages (north of 88.5 billion) viewed on Opera Mini has nearly doubled over the course of the year, increasing 98.2% compared to November 2010, also up 2.6% compared to the previous month.

Latin America has become the new top growth region for Opera Mini, with a whopping 247%  increase in unique users compared to 2010. This compares very favourably to the 145% growth of second placed Africa and the 138% increase in third placed South Asia, which is a former regional growth champion.
In related news local mobile social platform MXit announced a partnership agreement with Opera Software last month, which will bring the two companies together to work on an enhanced mobile experience to consumers in South Africa, Kenya as well as Nigeria.
