The countdown is officially back on, since come Saturday, 6 December 2025, the FUJIFILM Instax Undisputed Breaking World Championship returns to the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The event brings together elite solo dancers and top crews from not just the African continent but across the globe.

This will be the second Undisputed event in South Africa, after the success of the breathtaking first edition that rocked the Mother City earlier this year at a packed V&A Waterfront.

This qualifier leads directly to the Undisputed World Final in Tokyo, taking place in March 2026. Winners in Solo and Crew (5vs5) categories will book themselves a trip to Japan to represent their region on the world stage.

Set against the backdrop of Cape Town’s iconic V&A Waterfront, the event is free to attend and open to all ages, celebrating not just sport, but the full spectrum of Hip Hop culture and community, with its strong connection to the city.

Tyrone van den Meer, Project Lead of the FUJIFILM Instax Undisputed Breaking World Championship, notes his excitement about heading back to South Africa. “After the success of our first event in Cape Town earlier this year, there was no doubt we would return to the Mother City,” he says. Van der Meer confirms what local breaking talent was hoping for, noting, “We are excited to make Cape Town one of the official stops in the Undisputed series going forward.”

Global talent meets African power

Those in attendance on the 6th will witness an electrifying lineup that includes the world’s top breakers alongside Africa’s finest. Starting at 18:30, the main event will feature international talent representing the best in the sport:

Solo Competitors

- India (NED)

- Stefani (UKR)

- Keisha Keesh (RSA)

- Karla (REN)

- Courtnaé (RSA)

- Emma (CAN)

- Hiro10 (JAP)

- Gravity (USA)

- Johnny Fox (ESP)

Crews

- Les Affranchis (REN)

- Concrete Apostles (RSA).

A full culture celebration

Breaking is, of course, not just about the dancing, and making sure the beats are perfectly served are the DJs for the event. Joining perennial SA favourite, DJ Grandmaster Ready D, is DJ Nobunaga from the Netherlands, who has travelled the globe DJing at several breaking events, alongside DJ Eazy (RSA) and DJ Azuhl (RSA).

The judges for the event have also done duty at a multitude of competitions. Indeed, judges Renegade (UK) and Storm (GER) co-developed the Trivium judging system, which formed the basis for the breaking judging system used in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and qualifying events. They will score the event alongside Mark Kaweesi (UGA), Vee (RSA) and Menno (NED).

If the previous Undisputed event at the V&A is anything to go by, the crowd will be primed for action. But ensuring even more hype for the breakers are the MCs for the event, with MC Mario Bee (NED) joining MC Mel, who adds the local flavour.

South African organiser and breaking legend, Vouks James, notes, “Bringing international breakers to Cape Town gives our local scene exactly what it needs: exposure, inspiration and higher competition. The aim is to strengthen breaking in the country well beyond this event.”

Instax promoters will be at the event, taking photos of those in attendance and making sure they walk away with an Instax print. Category winners will also each receive an Instax prize to document their journey to Japan.

The organisers have noted that there are final spaces remaining for solo dancers and crews to enter the Cape Town Open Qualifier via and8.dance. Dancers of all levels are invited to compete for a chance to secure a place at the event.
