It's been known for some time now that mega game developers Blizzard is working on a new MMO project called Titan.

No additional details have been released on the game, but analyst Arvind Bhatia recently described the game as a “new casual MMO” in a note to Activision Blizzard investors.

As Gamasutra reported, the note contains a look at the company's future lineup, with Titan scheduled to be Blizzard's next big thing after Diablo III and the next Starcraft II expansion hits.

Blizzard COO Paul Sams told the site earlier this year that Titan is, “the most ambitious thing we've ever attempted”, and have said many of World of Warcraft's most prized developers are working on the game.

While Titan is set to become the company's next big MMO, it's not intended to replace WoW, with CEO Mike Morhaime saying at BlizzCon last year that, “We're thinking of it as sort of a next-generation MMO. It's not a sequel to World of Warcraft – we want to do something a bit different.”

He continued saying, “We think that World of Warcraft can continue co-existing with our new MMO and some people might prefer the new one, some people might still prefer to play World of Warcraft.”

At this stage the tension is almost killing us, with wild speculation on what exactly the title will encompass. If Titan is truly going to be wholly different from WoW, the fantasy setting is likely to be abandoned, and since the game shares its name with Saturn's largest moon this may just hint towards a space-based title (or not at all).

It's made even stranger thanks to Bhatia's comment about a “casual MMO”. Either way, it seems as though project Titan is set to hit sometime in 2013, but as always, Blizzard release dates are about as trustworthy as an Orc's table manners.
