The number of downloads of the new Angry Birds Space title has apparently hit the stratosphere, with the game racking up an impressive 10 million downloads in less than three days, according to a tweet from Rovio.

“Ten million Angry Birds Space downloads in less than 3 days! Thanks to our fans, stay tuned for more! ” enthused the company.

This is more than three times the number of sales set by the new iPad, which recorded a sales figure of three million units in its opening weekend.

The game, which was launched last Thursday, adds a twist to the Angry Birds franchise, by sending those perpetually enraged birds into orbit (with a little help from NASA). Angry Birds Space brings new dynamics to the bird tossing gameplay, such as gravitational fields, while some new birds join the fight.

At present, the game is available on Android, iOS, Mac and PC platforms. According to Reuters, the game will also be coming to Windows Phone in the future, despite earlier reports to the contrary.

Bird parks

Strong sales are not the only indicator of the Angry Birds stellar success. Rovio announced recently that the game would be turned into theme parks internationally, that are particularly focused on encouraging children to exercise while having fun.

According to the The Telegraph, the first park would be opened in Finland, while a UK rollout is slated for later this year. The site quotes Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio’s chief marketing officer, as explaining that “all of the Angry Birds Activity Parks will be ‘Magic Places’ which means that when people go there, they will gain access to additional content, rewards and special features such as the latest bird.”

To the point

More good news for those who cannot get enough of the Angry Birds action is that a report by Bloomberg hints at four more Angry Birds games coming by the end of this year. This is in addition to the twelve bonus levels released in the Angry Birds Rio update earlier this week on Google Play and Apple’s App store
