Batman and gaming fans the world over have been drooling in silent anticipation for RockSteady's sequel to the 2009 Bafta award winning Batman Arkham Asylum for months now.

The bat himself is poised to make a return to the gaming realm late next year according to Warner, but CVG recently broke the news that several retailers had put the game up for a March 25 or 26 release date in the UK.

According to CVG, Play.com and Shopto.com lists the game with a March 25 release date while Amazon UK has it set for March 26.

Time will tell whether this is simply a placeholder date or if the game will actually be shipping a couple of months early, which will undoubtedly strike a good chord with fans.

Anticipation for Arkham City is high as its prequel was hailed as one of the truest comic to video game adaptations ever, scoring a metacritic average of 92.
