BlackBerry parent company Research in Motion (RIM) has announced its first fiscal quarter 2011 results which show strong growth across the board for the brand.

Overall RIM reported a revenue growth of an impressive 24% year on year and, perhaps unsurprisingly, that it’s 11.2 million shipments of BlackBerry models during the quarter raised the company’s total shipped amount to a staggering 100 million.

Since its inception in 1984 Canadian based RIM has been growing steadily but only recently experienced a surge in popularity when its updated range of smartphone devices proved favourites within the global market.

Currently the company boasts annual revenue of almost $15 billion and holds the second highest portion of global smartphone marketshare behind Nokia.

During the announcement RIM also alluded towards two new handsets which might make their way onto the market soon. One of these will be an 8900 Slider which is currently without an official product name.

Details regarding the devices and their release dates are still uncertain.
