Research in Motion has announced that Facebook for BlackBerry v 1.9 is now available to download from BlackBerry App World. The new version seems to enhance location-based abilities, seeing that it adds Facebook Places and also incorporates BlackBerry Maps integration.

Facebook Places allows users to see where their friends are and what they’re doing. Users can tag the friends they’re with, add comments about the place they are checked into and add additional information as they move around. Thanks to the integration of BlackBerry Maps, users can view their location, where their friends are and also get directions to and from Facebook Places.

The new app builds on previous versions, and now includes:
·         An updated navigation bar
·         Search for people and pages
·         Integration with universal search on BlackBerry 6 devices (the Torch being the only one currently available in SA)
·         Viewing friends’ profile pictures and Pages from the Friends list page

The new application is available to download for free from BlackBerry App World.

RIM has recently announced the new BlackBerry Bold 9780, which will offer a number of upgrades on its cousin the BlackBerry Bold 9700 - including out of the box support for the new BlackBerry 6 OS.
