Fans of the Duke Nukem franchise will be glad to know that its most recent iteration, the controversial Duke Nukem Forever, is indeed alive and well in the arms of mega publisher 2K Games.

Last month we at TechSmart reported that Duke Nukem Forever, which has been in development since 1997, was being revived at Gearbox Software - the development team responsible for 2009 RPG come FPS hit title Borderlands.

Gaming news website Kotaku has confirmed that Gearbox is currently working on the title and that 2K Games plans to release it on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in 2011, although a specific date has not yet been confirmed.

This will hopefully bring the run of bad luck the Duke Nukem franchise has experienced since 1997 to an end. The once highly popular franchise has been sold, killed off and resurrected a number of times in the past fourteen years, yielding immense disappointment for gamers.
