It has emerged that a US based trade panel will investigate allegations made by mobile manufacturer HTC that technology giant Apple infringed on its technology. Significantly, HTC is seeking a ban on the sale of iPhones, iPods and iPads in the US.

 
According to Reuters the International Trade Commission has confirmed that it would take up the investigation and that the complaint involved "certain portable devices and related software".
 
HTC reportedly alleges that Apple has infringed on five of its patents including those related to cellphone directory hardware, power management technology and software.
 
This is just the latest development in a series of lawsuits between Apple and HTC. In March Apple filed patent infringement suits against HTC, a move which has generally been regarded as a strategic play on Google and its Android operating system, which powers a number of HTC, Samsung and Motorolla handsets.
 
At present Android arguably poses the biggest threat to Apple in terms of mobile market share due to its aggressive open source policy and popularity amongst users.
