Kingston Technologies, the world's largest independent manufacturer of memory products, recently launched its new SSDNow V+180 in South Africa, bringing with it the performance and endurance of Kingston solid state drives (SSD).

The 1.8” SSDNow has reached such levels of sophistication that it now far outclasses traditional hard disk drives (HDD's), achieving speeds of up to five times faster.

The SSDNow V+180 range is available in either 64, 128 or 256 GB capacities and is backed by a three-year warranty and 24/7 technical support from Kingston.

“Kingston Technology continues to listen to its customers, and has delivered the SSDNow V+180 Series,” said Steve Hall, EMEA product development manager at Kingston Technology. “Enterprises, SMBs and consumers can upgrade ultra-thin notebooks, netbooks and certain notebooks with a 1.8” form factor to enjoy supercharged performance, enhanced endurance and boosted productivity.”

The new SSDNow technology enables the V+180 to boot up 60% faster than conventional HDD's, dramatically speeding up the time it takes for a PC to go from a cold to fully booted up state.

The new series of SSD's are also built to be sturdy and work well on the road being up to eight times more shock-resistant than HDD's. Due to SSD's not having any internal moving parts, they have increased reliability as well as running cooler and more silently.

The SSDNow range is also less power intensive, dramatically increasing battery life in notebooks and netbooks it's installed in.

As far as pricing is concerned the 64 GB model comes in at a very reasonable R1749, the 128 GB at R2999 and the 256 GB at R7099. Unfortunately at this time only the 128 GB model is available in South Africa, but it’s expected that Kingston will soon introduce the rest of the range.
