MTN has announced that it is revising its Me2U service offering due to the popular demand. The new changes allow customers to send airtime as often as they want at no extra charge, as well as an increase in the maximum daily limit that consumers can transfer from R200 to R1000.

Me2U is a service that provides MTN customers with the ability to remotely transfer airtime to any other MTN subscriber, without incurring any registration costs or transfer fees. Transfers can be made in variable amounts from as little as R2.

How it works
  • To request airtime, MTN customers must dial *141*6328*followed by the number they are requesting airtime from and then the # sign.
  • To transfer airtime, the sender dials *141*6328*recipient’s number*rand value of airtime value being transferred, followed by a # sign, for instance *141*6328*0780000000*R29#.

“These enhancements to the Me2U service are an improvement of an already great product that offers flexibility, convenience and security,” said Serame Taukobong, MTN South Africa chief marketing officer.

“With the bulk of our mobile users being on prepaid price plans, these enhancements will ensure that airtime requests and transfers remain a hassle-free, painless and safe exercise.”

Taukobong also pointed out that Me2U will protect consumers from unscrupulous retailers that charge extra rand value above the airtime value purchased.

In related news DStv Mobile also recently partnered with MTN to launch a 3G streaming Mobile TV service, which will allow MTN subscribers to watch DStv channels on their handsets.
