MTN has officially announced that it will be reducing off peak call rates to 95c per minute for customers on MTN Off Peak and MTN Off Peak TopUp contracts in honour of the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off today.

“We want to make communication more affordable in order for our customers to keep in touch with their friends and family during this festival of soccer starting in South Africa tomorrow,” comments Serame Taukobong, Chief Marketing Officer at MTN South Africa.
 
MTN will also be lowering the peak rate on these packages from R2.85 to R2.50. Both the off peak and peak rates are charged per second from the first second and the new rates apply to calling any local number.
 
According to the company MTN Off Peak and MTN Off Peak TopUp contracts are best suited to those users who make the majority of their calls after 20:00 on weekdays and on weekends.
 
“Not only has MTN invested more than R7-billion in upgrading its network infrastructure for the 2010 World Cup and beyond during 2009, it is continually unveiling innovative products and solutions that meet the diverse needs of its customers,” concluded Taukobong.
