Microsoft has been having continued success in terms of the user adoption rate of its latest browser, Internet Explorer 9. The beta version of the browser surpassed the 23 million mark in user downloads over a month ago and then the company made the Release Candidate of the browser available, which managed over two million user downloads in just a few days.  
 
Now Redmond has revealed that, following the availability of IE9 Release Candidate (10 February), it has been downloaded over 11 million times.
 
According to a blogpost by Roger Capriotti, director, Internet Explorer Product Marketing, the combined user downloads figure for IE9 RC and IE9 Beta amount to more than 36 million.
 
IE9 first became available as of 15 September 2010 and Capriotti said that since February the combined IE9 download figure has surpassed that of the joined IE8 Beta and IE8 RC figure. According to Net Applications IE9 now accounts for 0.66% of the global browser usage share on Windows with a 2.09% usage share on Microsoft’s Windows 7 OS.
 
Net Applications also reported that Microsoft’s IE browsers take up a 56.77% share of the global browser market. Mozilla’s Firefox accounts for 21.74%, whilst Google’s Chrome snaps up 10.93% and Apple’s Safari browser 6.36%. Opera Software’s Opera browser is utilised by 2.15% of internet surfers worldwide and its Opera Mini browser by a further 1.12%.
