Motorola Mobility (a subsidiary of Motorola) has launched two new Android 2.1-powered smartphones, the Motorola FLIPOUT and the MB525, in South Africa. These follow in the Android footsteps left by the Milestone smartphone.

Motorola FLIPOUT

Motorola’s FLIPOUT boasts a square pivot design that enables its touch-display to rotate, revealing a five-row QWERTY keypad with a separate row for numeric keys underneath. It also sports a 3 megapixel camera, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, a 3.5 mm audio jack, 3G HSDPA, live wallpapers as well as added security for Exchange server users.

“FLIPOUT merges Motorola’s design heritage with Android to deliver a new take on the typical smartphone form. In an incredibly compact square, FLIPOUT fits neatly into your palm, purse or small pocket, making it easy to stay connected while on the go,” said Megan Nicholas, country manager, Motorola Mobility South Africa.

The company’s MB525 features a 3.7" high-resolution WVGA (480 x 854 pixels) touch-screen that stretches from edge to edge in order to maximise media playback and web browsing. For the latter the MB525 boasts a full web browser with Adobe Flash Lite. It is also sports support for microSDHC cards up to 32 GB in size, a-GPS, 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN, a five megapixel camera with LED flash and is dust proof as well as water resistant.

“Our daily lives are full of challenges, which prompted Motorola to design a phone that is ‘life proof’,” stated Nicholas. “Motorola MB525 is scratch and water resistant as well as dust proof, protecting you from life’s little challenges such as spilling liquids, a sudden rain shower or a drop in the sand.”

The Motorola FLIPOUT and the Motorola MB525 will be available locally in December 2010.
