Olympus has introduced two new models joining their compact µ series of digital cameras.

The symbol µ, meaning micro, is fitting for the two new devices as they’ve both been designed to be as compact as possible.

Able to easily fit in any jacket pocket, the µ-7040 and µ-9010 sports one of the world’s smallest zoom power packages.

These ultra-thin 14 megapixel cameras are fitted with up to 10x (µ-9010), and a 7x (µ-7040) wide optical zoom with the ability, like most new compact cameras, to shoot high-definition (HD) movie clips which can then be viewed on your TV via HDMI.

A new Photo Surfing option now allows users to tag their pictures by person, event and location using Advanced Face Detection technology.

Some more features included in the new Olympus line-up include Dual Image Stabilisation, i-Auto (intelligent auto mode) and in-camera panorama, which all help users take snaps without worrying about the details.

Another interesting new feature is ‘Beauty Mode’. When using this function the camera touches up the appearance of your subjects, even while the shot is being taken. It recognises faces and makes skin appear smoother, brighter and more youthful.

Olympus has already sent out stock to retailers, so these cameras should be available at most major electronics stores. The Olympus µ-7040 has a recommended retail price of R2799 and the µ-9010 clocks in at R3499, both including VAT. For more info head on over to the Olympus site.
