Facebook more popular web destination than Google
 
New Media Age reported on Wednesday that Facebook overtook Google as the most visited internet site for the first time in the US, according to figures released by a research firm. For the week ending on 13 March, Facebook accounted for 7.07% of all US internet traffic, whilst Google accounted for 7.04%, figures by the analytics firm Experian Hitwise showed.
 
Illegal file sharing to cost EU hundreds of billions by 2015

 
The BBC reported that the proliferation of illegal file sharing could cost European countries 1.2 million jobs and €240 billion by 2015. These figures are based on a study conducted in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, with research also estimating that in Britain alone, 254 000 jobs and €7.8 billion (almost R78 billion) could be lost. Of course these figures might only become a reality if the world doesn’t end in 2012.
 
Google could be out of China by April
 
Engadget reported that Google China might be closing its doors in early April. The basis for this is a report by Shanghai-based Chinese Business News (via Bloomberg), quoting an anonymous Google China employee giving a date of 10 April for the ceasing of Google’s operations in the country. According to the report a statement will be released on Monday.    
 
Decision pending on the internet version of the red light district
 
The internet corporation for assigned names and numbers (ICANN), which is an international regulatory body for web addresses, postponed their decision over the creation of a .xxx domain for porn websites, to their next meeting that will take place between 20 and 25 June in Brussels. 
 
iPhone 3.0 OS turns 1
 
Apple’s iPhone 3.0 mobile OS was a year old on Wednesday. Its launch brought many new features to the iPhone’s arsenal including cut, copy and paste functionality, the on-screen landscape keyboard and the ability to record voice memos.
