As the weeks of the new year start flying by, many gamers have been counting down the days until they can get their hands on Nintendo's newest handheld offering, the glasses-free, 3D-enabled Nintendo 3DS.

The handheld is set to make its first appearance in Japan on the 26th of February, with a western release date expected to be slated somewhere around March. The company is also planning a huge unveiling in New York City on the 19th of January, showcasing the device and some of the titles that will be available on it.
 
A similar unveiling has taken place in Tokyo over the weekend, with Nintendo announcing a plethora of new titles that will be available on the system. According to Gamespot, eight 3DS titles will be available for purchase on launch day in Japan.
 
These games include Nintendogs + Cats, Winning Eleven 3DSoccer, Combat of Giant Dinosaur 3D, Super Street Fighter IV 3D, Samurai Warriors Chronicle, Puzzle Bobble 3D, Ridge Racer 3D and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask.
 
Pricing for the titles were also announced and is in accordance with the current price of Nintendo DS games in the region, ranging from 4800 yen (R393) to 6090 yen (R499). The 3DS handheld itself will have a retail price of 25 000 yen (R2049) when it launches in Japan. No pricing details have as yet been confirmed for audiences outside of Japan.
 
Other interesting titles up for release later this year include Blazblue Continuum Shift II, Dead or Alive Dimensions, Resident Evil 3D The Mercenaries, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater, Starfox 64 3D and even a Sims 3 3DS port. The Nintendo 3DS is without a doubt one of the most anticipated gaming systems of 2011, and as the original Nintendo DS was recently named as the best selling video game system in America, the company surely has big plans for its 3 dimensional successor.
