Nokia announced back in May that it will be rebranding Ovi services, the likes of Ovi Store and Ovi Maps, as Nokia services. Now the Finnish phone giant has revealed that its Ovi Store will be changing its name to Nokia Store (video posted below) and that it will become simpler to use.

The company also said that this application store has now been rebuilt using Qt (pronounced cute) Quick developer platform for the MeeGo-running N9, as well as for the latest crop of Symbian-operating devices. For users of these devices, the most noticeable enhancement to their app store will be the speed of Nokia Store.

According to the Nokia the site is going to load faster, run smoother and be much more responsive. A new navigation bar located at the bottom of the app, will also ensure that users locate content quicker than before.

Purchasing apps for download will be easier and faster, as users will no longer have to enter their Nokia Store password at the checkout, if they are already signed into their Nokia account on their smartphone. Additionally, a new error handling system is in place to deal with any app purchasing issues that may arise.

Nokia stated that users should receive an update notification on their smartphone “any day now”. There are reports of local Nokia N8 units that have already received the notification and updated the app, however our N9 review unit is yet to get the update notification message and still connects to the Ovi Store.

In related news Nokia is also reportedly looking to enlarge its mobile footprint in emerging markets, by developing a new Linux-based mobile operating system for for its low-end phones.
