Skype has announced that it has completed its acquisition of Qik, a provider of mobile video software and services that enables users to capture and instantly share video from anywhere. The transfer of shares and funds between the shareholders of Qik and Skype was completed on Friday and Qik is now under the ownership of Skype.

“The combination of Qik’s products, services and employees, combined with those of Skype will enhance Skype’s offering in the mobile video space,” said Tony Bates, Skype’s chief executive officer. “We are excited about working together.”

“We look forward to joining forces with Skype to bring additional video capabilities to consumers and our business partners,” stated Vijay Tella, a spokesperson for Qik.

Skype recently set a new record number of simultaneous users with over 27 million users signed onto the service at the same time and also updated its app for Symbian-powered devices last month.
