If you own a Nokia smartphone running on Symbian Series 60, then you are now able to conserve your airtime and communicate with loved ones oversees by making VoIP calls via Skype over either a Wi-Fi or 3G connection. Skype announced yesterday that its popular app is now available to download from their site and by way of Nokia’s Ovi store for certain Nokia smartphones.

This free app boasts all the standard Skype features such as making and receiving VoIP calls to and from other Skype users around the world, sending and receiving IM messages and sharing your pictures, videos and other files with your Skype contacts. It will also allow you to import contacts from your phone’s address book.

Although Skype for Symbian phones currently only supports certain Nokia smartphones, such as the E72, N97 as well as the X6, it will eventually also be available for other Symbian devices from other manufacturers including Sony Ericsson. You can view the complete list of supported mobiles on Nokia’s site.
