Apple fixes FaceTime flaw

Along with the new MacBook Air and Mac OS X Lion, Apple also unveiled FaceTime for Mac (beta) this week, which enables Mac users to make video calls over Wi-Fi to iPhone and iPod touch users. A German Mac website was quick to report that FaceTime for Mac contains a serious security flaw.

“Once you’ve logged into FaceTime you can have a look at all the account settings of the used Apple ID. Username, ID, place and birth date are shown as well as the security question and the answer to it – in plain text, without another password request.” The issue persists even when your FaceTime sessions ends.

“When you choose “Log Out” from the top menu, the password remains in the password field, even when restarting the application. That shouldn’t be the case tho[ugh]: Applications should remove passwords from the password field as soon as the application is closed.”

Cupertino, however, were quick to respond and have already fixed the flaw, less than a day after reports of it surfaced.

Steve Jobs meets with US president

US president Barack Obama has reportedly met with Apple’s co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs. Business Insider reported that “President Obama is flying to the Bay Area from Seattle this afternoon. He’s speaking at Google exec Marissa Mayer’s house in Palo Alto this evening. Before that, says a source familiar with the details, he will have a one-on-one meeting with Steve Jobs.”

The topic of the meeting wasn’t reported, so it might have either been a serious discussion of economic and technological issues pertinent to the US or president Obama, who is an avid BlackBerry user, might just have wanted to swap his BlackBerry for an iPhone 4.
