Earlier today Acer revealed details behind its new Aspire One AOD255, which is set to be the cheapest dual-core netbook on the market when it launches later this month.

The tiny titan will deliver powerful performance thanks to its Intel Atom N550 dual-core CPU, while Acer claims the device will be able to run off battery power for an impressive eight hours.

"We have enhanced our best-selling Aspire One netbook line with the improved performance and better power efficiency to improve the mobile computing experience for consumers," said Pete Dailey, senior product marketing manager for netbooks. "With the new Aspire One AOD255, users are able to multitask, explore the Internet, connect with friends, and enjoy entertainment applications, without worrying about battery life or being tethered to an electrical outlet."

Helping to extend the battery's longevity is a 10.1” CrystalBrite LED-backlit display that saves 22.2% more power than conventional netbooks..

The AOD255 comes equipped with 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and fast Ethernet LAN connectivity. A 1.3 megapixel HD webcam delivers smooth video streaming if needed with a built-in microphone providing audio.

The AOD255 also features 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250 GB internal HDD (hard disk drive) and sells with Windows 7 Starter edition and Microsoft Office Starer 2010 included. Acer is also working on their aesthetic appeal, giving users colour options of red, black, brown and aquamarine to add a dash of variety to the device.

The Acer Aspire One AOD255 will be going on sale at US retailers later this month with a RRP of $329.99 (R2 286). No information on local pricing or availability is available as of yet.
