This year's ad:tech London, one of the most important digital marketing conferences on the calender, is due to play host to Twitter as the micro blogging platform gears up to introduce its first major update in four years.

Shiva Rajaraman, Twitter product manager, is planning to introduce the new 'multi-media' version of the popular site while discussing how it will affect marketers.

The presentation will be focused on how marketers can make use of the new version of the popular blogging tool, also giving crucial insights into the company's planned advertising propositions.

The planned update is set to introduce a slew of new features to users, among these are extra content related to a tweet such as replies, other tweets by the user, related tweets and a map of the location where the tweet was sent from.

The update also promises to make the site cleaner, adding a timeline and 'infinite' scroll so users won't have to click on 'more' to view older tweets.

The site update is widely believed to be aimed at making Twitter more accessible to advertisers, and making users stay on the site. Many Twitter users today only access the site through third-party applications which have features unavailable on the site itself.

At the beginning of September Twitter sported 145 million users, according to CEO Evan Williams. The update will effect all users and is expected to be rolled out in stages over the coming weeks, interested readers can view an introductory video of the new site here.
