Apple fans who have been waiting with bated breath for the release of the company’s white iPhone 4 will once again be disappointed; the company has elected to further delay the handset without explanation.

According to Reuters, Apple’s white iPhone 4 handset, which was initially intended to be released in July, following the black handset’s release in June, has been pushed forward to early 2011.

"We're sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone again,"

The company has failed to provide an explanation behind why the device keeps being delayed, simply commenting that it is, "more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected."

We’re not entirely sure why it might be so challenging to change the external colour of a tried and tested handset. Nonetheless, Apple has yet to deliver on its promises.

Despite this, the iPhone 4 has proven to be a winner for the company - boosting iPhone  sales by 91% in the fourth quarter year on year.
