Rumours began circulating this weekend that Nintendo is planning to integrate its previously stand-alone Wii Motion Plus add-on into the overall control structure.

According to GameSpot, several people spotted a packaged Nintendo product boasting a game and the Wii Remote with Motion Plus. Despite this, the remote was the standard size. It will reportedly retail for $50.

Nintendo Europe has since confirmed the existence of the product, adding that the device  "is real" but refused to offer further comment.

The Wii Motion Plus was released in mid 2009 as an expansion device for the standard Nintendo Wii remote. It was designed to allow the player to more enjoy more accurate motion control and supplements the accelerometer and Sensor Bar capabilities of the Wii console.

This may be part of a move to hit back at Microsoft and Sony, who this year announced motion control gaming systems of their own in a bid to capture a portion of Nintendo’s significant casual gaming market.

Only time will tell if Nintendo’s scheme will succeed in staving its hungry competitors but we definitely believe it to be a step in the right direction for the already aged console.
