Microsoft South Africa today officially announced pricing and release details for its revamped Xbox 360 console and its Kinect motion control gaming system.

Both were officially unveiled at the recent E3 gaming conference in Los Angeles, USA, to a staggering reception. Thus far, the refurbished Xbox 360 has outperformed Sony’s PS2 Slim and PS3 Slim in terms of comparative sales in the United Kingdom.

According to Microsoft, the Xbox 360 4 GB console (equivalent to the old Arcade), the Kinect motion sensor and ‘Kinect Adventures, which is a twenty game package similar to that bundled with Nintendo’s Wii console, will be available at a price of R3 699.99.

Existing Xbox 360 console owners can purchase the Kinect sensor with “Kinect Adventures” for R1 999.99.

The new Xbox 360 4 GB console, which begins shipping from August 20 in Africa, will be available for R2 399.99 and will incorporate a matte black finish, a Kinect port and built in 802.11n wireless support.

“Kinect for Xbox 360 offers tremendous entertainment value, transforming our living rooms into fitness classes, dance clubs and sports stadiums through full body, voice and multiplayer games,” said Chris Lewis, vice president, Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Europe.

Selected local retailers are already taking pre orders for the device.
