Vodacom CEO Pieter Uys has confirmed, via his Twitter account, that the operator will be launching Apple’s iPhone 4 at the end of September.

Uys employed his relatively unused Twitter account to respond to questions regarding the iPhone 4’s local release date, revealing that the “date for iPhone4 in SA from Apple is end of September. Will keep you posted.”

In addition to this the CEO confirmed that Samsung’s Android powered Galaxy S smartphone had “just arrived”.

Questions regarding when the iPhone 4 would be released locally have been levelled at South African mobile operators, specifically Vodacom, since it was announced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs earlier this year.

It has also been confirmed that Vodacom no longer holds exclusive distribution rights to the iPhone in South Africa and that MTN will also be releasing the smartphone.
