Functional art

Publish date: 19 April 2010 by Hanleigh Daniels

The LG Flatron E2350V is a thin (17.5 mm), beautifully sculpted 23" full HD (1080p) LCD monitor. Even the menu buttons on the monitor enhance its trendy look, whilst remaining functional, making it easy to scroll through the screens’ menu system. The display comes with a detachable stand, which when not mounted can sit completely flat on your desk to use it as a secondary monitor for a laptop - a lot like the LG Flatron W1930S. It doesn't tilt very far back though, which might cause a viewing angle problem.

It's not just the body of the LG that's a hit, but also its visuals. Colours are rich and vibrant, and blacks were very dark thanks to its 5 000 000:1 digital contrast ratio. Apart from sporting LED backlighting, the LG also automatically adjusts the brightness of the display to match the surroundings, helping to reduce eye strain. The anti-glare display surface treatment is also a big help.

Boosting your productivity

When you install the Easy Set Package found on the installation CD, you’ll have access to some other useful features that are easily accessible via an icon in the notification area of the task bar. These include Cinema Mode, which allows you to focus your attention on a particular section of the screen. When watching a movie on YouTube for example, you can drag your mouse around the area in which the video is playing, with the rest of the surrounding area dimming out. Dual Web is another productivity tool that enables some useful multitasking to be achieved. It optimises the size of program windows that are open to allow for two windows to be displayed on-screen, much like Snap with Windows 7. Half of the display can be dedicated to Microsoft Word for example, while the other half can display your browser, making it easy to copy and paste. Both Cinema Mode and Dual Web were really easy to set up and digital immigrants shouldn't have trouble using the Easy Set Package.

Connectivity

The E2350V includes an HDMI port, which means you can connect your PlayStation 3, Blu-ray player or Xbox 360 to enjoy your content in glorious HD. There is also a 3.5 mm audio jack, a D-sub port for PC input and a DVI-D port located at the back of the display. It doesn't feature any onboard speakers.

Final Word

Apart from a very stylish form, LG’s Flatron E2350V also has the functionality to make it one of the best screens we've had the pleasure of reviewing. It goes for a RRP of R2 399, contact LG Electronics South Africa on 011-571-6700 for further info.

I cannot recommend this display.
It will not display at promised resolutions 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz.
The shop could not fix or find the failure.
I use a brand new NVIDIA driver in my Asus G60 gamer machine with latest version 197.16 for Windows 7 64 bit.
Also on HDMI it will not display above 720p despite the spec says 1080 p.
not a recommendable product. Much poorer in clarity and not crisp as my old BenQ Fp222 W a. display (also much cheaper).

I had this monitor give to me by a friend. I am very disappointed with it. Mainly the color, Everything is blueish, its not a malfunction. Colors just don't look vibrant with it. Its not warm and friendly. I think its because of the LED back lighting. I don't recommended. Stick with what works, and don't by LED yet. OLED is a different story though.
