Computex 2018 in Taipei, Taiwan is nearly done, but the announcements have not stopped, with AMD detailing an upcoming Threadripper CPU that will tout 32 cores. This would be four more than the 28 core 5 GHz model that Intel teased at Computex, which means the game of one upmanship is certainly on.

AMD has not mentioned precisely when this new offering will hit the market, only noting that it is expected sometime later this year. When it does land, it will house four 8-core Ryzen APUs, unifying them into one unit.

The company further notes that this second generation Threadripper will have double the processing thread capabilities of its predecessor at 64, yet still be contained within the same socket as the original. Added to this will be a 12 nanometer construction, which is the final detail that AMD revealed about the new Threadripper at Computex.

It remains to be seen if Intel will a CPU ready to rival the second-gen Threadripper before it hits the market, which is set for Q3 this year.
