Despite the best efforts to get Google to name their latest mobile OS Nutella, the company has announced that the seventh iteration of Android will officially be known as Nougat. While Google has not disclosed what other names were in the running, Nougat keeps the sweet/dessert theme of its OS names alive and well.

Still known as Android N at the the time, we saw Google demo some of the new features of Nougat at Google I/O in May this year. It was after the event that Google asked fans to submit names via a crowdsourcing site, but it would appear as if Google were always going to play it safe, rather than  picking some of the weirder suggestions, such as Norwegian Smoked Salmon.

For now, we only have an official name, with a release date yet to be confirmed. What we do know however, is that Android Nougat will also support Google's Daydream VR platform, should your device meet certain specifications.
