Every silver lining has a dark cloud it seems. Alongside the new full Deadpool 2 trailer comes the bad news that the planned animation series for the Merc with the Mouth has been cancelled, at least on FX.
As one could imagine, this was a NSFW ten part animation based on the Marvel character. What got us more excited was the fact that it was going to be written and produced by none other than Donald Glover (Community, Atlanta) and his brother Steven.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the Glover bros will no longer be involved, and ran the following statement from FX: “Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel's Deadpool animated series.” FX did, however, state that its other Marvel series, Legion remains safe and sound.
But this does not mean the Deadpool project is dead and buried, since Marvel Television might still pitch the series to other channels, or it could form part of Disney’s larger plans for a streaming service. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney CEO Bob Iger noted that its streaming service will offer a Marvel original series at time of launch, so could Deadpool be the one?
In the meantime, we still have Deadpool 2 to look forward to, and down below is the trailer if you missed it.
