It looks like Free Guy, the new action comedy vehicle for our man Ryan Reynolds, could turn out to be The Truman Show for the video game generation. While the first trailer focused a lot on the shenanigans going on in Free City, the crazy RPG open world area where Guy (Ryan Reynolds’) unsuspiciously resides, the new trailer takes a bit of a romantic (and apocalyptic) turn.

Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) stars as Milly, a real-life gamer getting caught up in the amorous ambitions of Guy (Reynolds). He soon finds out that things are not as they appear, struggling with how to find meaning in essentially a meaningless world, and his gaming world coming to an end. A meaningless and fast disappearing world? This is a very apt dilemma a lot of millennials (and younger, and older) are dealing with – years after the absurdist and existentialists wrestled with it.

The movie is directed by Shawn Levy, who has helmed episodes of Stranger Things, Night at the Museum and Big Fat Liar, while it also stars Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and Lil Rel Howery (Get Out).

Free Guy is set for release on 11 December, and unlike Dune and The Batman, looks like it will actually appear on schedule. Check out the second trailer below by clicking play.
