With HMD Global at the helm of Nokia Mobile these days, one often needs to be reminded that the company still views itself as a start-up, which means it places a larger emphasis on capacity than some of its bigger rivals. That said, HMD Global has shown no signs of slowing down when it comes to the release of new devices, with a trio of refreshed options being unveiled this week.

To that end, the company revealed slightly improved versions of its mid-range and entry-level devices, debuting the Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1. It's still unclear at this stage whether all three will be landing in South Africa, and the same goes for how much they'll cost if they do.

That said, we can still run through what the refreshed phones are sporting.

Starting with the Nokia 5.1, it looks a lot like its predecessor, with a single piece of aluminium used for the unibody. Up front is a 5.5" Full HD display and 18:9 aspect ratio, which was all the rage among flagship Android phones last year. On the back is a 16 MP primary shooter, with a handy 8 MP option up front. In terms of internal specifications, there are some choices, with 2 GB or 3 GB RAM available and 16 GB or 32 GB internal storage depending on the model. Doing the heavy lifting is an octa-core MediaTek Helio P18 processor, which is said to be 40% more powerful than the previous model.  

Moving onto the Nokia 3.1, this device is said to serve up premium looks for far less. HMD Global is also billing it as their most affordable phone to feature an 18:9 screen ratio, starting at a recommended €139. A 5.2" HD+ display is up front, with a 13 MP shooter taking care of the rear and 8 MP front-facing option. MediaTek is also handling the processor on this one, with a MT6750 octa-core chipset being paired with 2 GB or 3 GB RAM variants.

Lastly the Nokia 2.1, which is the choice for those wanting to make the switch from feature phone to smartphone and are capable of handling the $115 asking price. This device is focused on two areas in particular - screen and battery life. The former is 5.5" HD display that's almost 20% larger than the original. As for battery life, HMD Global claims a full two days from the substantial 4000 mAh unit onboard.
