HP has partnered with 3M on a display system called Sure View. It's designed to help notebook owners stop prying eyes from seeing what's on their screen, a process that 3M dubs as "visual hacking".

The technology is not available across the HP notebook range, and is only on the Elitebook 840 and 1040 for now, both of which are expected to release next month. HP is also planning to use Sure View on a few high-end touch notebooks it has slated for October too.

How does it work? According to 3M, they've developed a second screen of sorts that can be activated with a push of a button. To that end, the filter stops any light off of the notebook's display from being emitted on either side. 3M therefore estimates that within a 70-degree arc of the notebook, 95% of the screen's content is unviewable.

While Sure View cannot stop more malicious data breaches, it does add a little peace of mind for users who are accessing and working on company information at their local coffee shop or in the airport lounge for example.
