Huawei Smart Hotel Solution helps with growing demand for reliable internet

The Torre Melina Gran Meliá Hotel in Barcelona has implemented a significant upgrade to its digital infrastructure by adopting a new Wi-Fi system aimed at improving connectivity throughout the premises. The hotel has deployed Huawei’s Smart Hotel Solution, designed to deliver high-speed internet access and support the growing demand for reliable connectivity among both business and leisure travellers.
The system, based on a passive optical distribution network (ODN), enables high-bandwidth, low-latency internet access across the hotel, including guest rooms, meeting spaces and public areas. Huawei notes the infrastructure supports Wi-Fi 7 technology, with speeds of up to 3600 Mbps. This allows for stable video conferencing, streaming and other data-intensive activities, even in high-density environments such as banquet halls and restaurants.

Business travellers increasingly expect robust and uninterrupted internet access for work purposes, while leisure guests rely on seamless connectivity for entertainment and social media. In response, the hotel’s network now includes features such as dynamic antenna management and automatic wireless optimisation to maintain performance during peak usage. Huawei states this enables a 20% higher concurrency than the industry average.
The new system uses a Fiber-To-The-Office (FTTO) approach, consolidating various services onto a single optical fibre network and creating a hotel campus network solution. Each hotel room is connected with a single fibre line and Optical Network Terminal (ONT), simplifying cabling requirements by an estimated 80% and reducing energy consumption by about 30% by replacing many active devices with passive ones, according to Huawei.

Additional operational improvements include centralised network management and real-time diagnostics. The system allows hotel staff to monitor Wi-Fi performance and resolve issues more quickly through automated fault detection and one-click troubleshooting. Huawei also mentions that the solution is simple to deploy and operate.
With this infrastructure in place, Torre Melina positions itself among a growing number of hospitality venues integrating advanced networking technology to meet modern guest expectations, transforming it into a smart hotel.
