Huawei introduces new Mate foldable flagship alongside host of new products
By Industry Contributor 15 December 2025 | Categories: news
Huawei hosted its 'Unfold the Moment' launch last week in Dubai, pulling the wraps off its new top-tier devices, spearheaded by the HUAWEI Mate X7 foldable smartphone. The company also introduced the second generation of its distinctive open-ear earbuds, the HUAWEI FreeClip 2, alongside the premium HUAWEI WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN and the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5 S tablet.
Foldable flagship gets upgraded
The star of the show, the Mate X7, aims to solidify Huawei's position in the high-end foldable market. The phone features a slim and reportedly more durable build, packing high-end performance and a sophisticated camera system – often a key weakness in earlier foldables.
Huawei has stressed significant improvements in toughness, with it using new hinges, a reinforced display, and an outer screen protected by the company’s proprietary Kunlun Glass.
The company also mentions a 'second-generation True-to-Colour Camera', claiming a 43% boost in colour accuracy. It also includes an 'Ultra Lighting HDR Video' mode with a significant dynamic range of 17.5 EV.
The design takes inspiration from traditional Chinese silk craftsmanship, and the Mate X7 will be available in a nano-fibre Brocade White, and vegan leather options in Nebula Red and Black.

Fashion-forward audio with new FreeClip
The new HUAWEI FreeClip 2 earbuds maintain the original's open-ear, ear-clip design but with a renewed emphasis on style. Huawei positions them as a 'fashion accessory' designed for all-day wear. Each bud weighs only 5.1 g and is designed for a secure, comfortable fit.
The audio quality is handled by high-energy dual-driver units and an NPU AI processor, which Huawei claims offers 10x the computing power of the previous model. They are rated IP57 for dust and water resistance and offer a decent 38 hours of total battery life with the case.
The launch also brought updates to Huawei's other core product categories, with the luxury watch and new tablet.

HUAWEI WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN: This new edition, the 'Royal Gold Edition', is positioned squarely at the luxury end of the market. It features a rare-earth purple ceramic bezel with 18K gold and a zirconium-based liquid metal case. It also includes features for divers, like a waterproof system and sonar-based underwater communication.
The HUAWEI MatePad 11.5 S tablet is specifically targeting young creators and is bundled with a new M-Pencil Pro stylus and a magnetic keyboard. Its highlight is the new 'PaperMatte Display', which aims to reduce the sharpness issues often found in traditional matte screens. The tablet comes pre-loaded with Huawei's creative apps, including the GoPaint app with new animation tools.

In a brief statement, Zhu Ping, president of Marketing and Sales Services at Huawei Consumer Business Group, suggested the products reflect a goal to "deliver exceptional product experiences" by responding to user needs. The launch highlights the company’s continuing push to build out its premium hardware ecosystem across multiple device categories.
