In a rather unexpected move, Nintendo unveiled a new handheld console yesterday in the form of the 2DS XL, with is set to go on sale Stateside on 28 July for an estimated $150 (R2 000). The device's local availability and pricing is yet to be detailed, with Nintendo's focus here in SA still on the new Switch console. 

When the 2DS XL lands on our shores, it will be sporting a similar setup to the 3DS console. As such, a C Stick (analogue-esque), pair of XL screens (sans 3D functionality), NFC support for amiibo gameplay and the ability to play 3DS titles in 2D. 

Accompanying the handheld console's 28 July release will a few games too, including Hey! Pikmin and Miitopia. See the 2DS XL in action in the video below.
