As you might have noticed, over the past few years, there’s been a major shift in facial hair trends. We’re seeing more male salons and grooming aids like beard oils and brushes; there’s less shaving and more grooming. Philips believes that a traditional razor just doesn’t cut it anymore, and this is where its OneBlade comes in.

With OneBlade you can trim, edge, and shave any length of facial hair, helping with the exact trim that is needed, whether it’s a full shave or precise beard trimming. While not exactly the same, the cutting action of the OneBlade reminds one more of a beard trimmer found on some electrical shavers, except that it has now been mounted on a razor head.

Philips notes a hybrid technology integrates a fast-moving blade (200x a second) with a protection system that keeps skin happy. The dual-protection system integrates a glide coating that smoothly glides along the skin, while the rounded polymer tips guide the hairs to be instantly cut. OneBlade does not shave too close – so the skin stays comfortable. It will work with either wet or dry shaves.

While most razors you shave with the grain, the OneBlade can go either way, sometimes actually working better against the grain. The head is small enough to do precise trimming and edging, while there are also different stubble combs included if you are trimming down your beard and don’t want a smooth shave. Philips notes a OneBlade head will last about four months before another one needs to be purchased.

There are three different OneBlade options available, differing on battery capacity and the amount of stubble combs received:

OneBlade QP2510 - R499

OneBlade QP2520 -R699

OneBlade QP2530 - R899

Philips OneBlade One Pack Replaceable Blades - R249

Philips OneBlade Two Pack Replaceable Blades - R 449

The Philips OneBlade is currently available at Dis-Chem, Clicks and Takealot. A full review of the product will be coming soon.
