Facebook's annual F8 developer conference is currently underway in San Jose, California, bringing with it several announcements for the social media platform. It's not simply Facebook getting the attention though, with Instagram, owned by Facebook, also getting in on the action. To that end, it was announced that offline use of Instagram will soon be arriving for Android users.

According to Techcrunch, users will be able to view content from previously loaded Instagram feeds, as well as make comments, save images and like, but with one caveat. The actions carried out while offline will only take effect once an internet connection is reestablished.

The move stems from that fact that 80% of Instagram users live outside the US, according to a Instagram spokesperson, with the company needing a way to deliver a better user experience in countries with limited connectivity or expensive data plans.

This is not the first time Facebook has looked to develop data sensitive versions of its applications, with Facebook Lite becoming wildly popular last year, amassing 200 million active users over 12 months. We're guessing that Facebook is hoping this version of Instagram has the same effect.

As for iOS users, Techcrunch is told that a version for those devices is on the way. The Android variant has not been dated for rollout though.
