Puma has announced the Velocity NITRO 4, the latest addition to its versatile Velocity running shoe series. This new release is touted as the most versatile offering in Puma's running line-up, with Puma stating the Velocity NITRO 4 is engineered to cater to all runners, irrespective of their experience or distance.

Standing on the shoulder of the Velocity NITRO 3 (read our review), this updated model incorporates several key advancements. A significant upgrade is the full-length NITROFOAM midsole, which promises enhanced lightweight cushioning and superior energy return. The re-engineered upper has been designed for improved breathability and a more adaptive fit, while the PUMAGRIP outsole maintains its reputation for providing market-leading, multi-surface traction.

Notably, the Velocity NITRO 4 is 14 grams lighter than its predecessor, contributing to a more dynamic and agile feel. The new version remains with a stack height of 36 mm and a drop of 10 mm. However, for some runners, it will be the flashy zig-zag/thunderbolt design of the midsole that will be the real standout.

Puma says the new iteration aims to redefine the running experience, providing comfort and performance across various paces, from rigorous tempo sessions to leisurely recovery runs. Puma believes that the Velocity NITRO 4 is designed to help runners "unleash their inner athlete." If the shoe is anything like its predecessor, which we called “a genuinely great training shoe,” ticking off your weekly milage will be easy.

Conor Cashin, senior product line manager at Puma, described the shoe as "your perfect training partner." "We upgraded Velocity to have a full NITROFOAM midsole, making it the most responsive trainer in its class. With all that NITROFOAM and its dynamic design, Velocity makes your miles way more fun. No matter the distance or pace, Velocity NITRO 4 is the way running should feel,” he concluded.

The Puma Velocity NITRO 4 will be available for purchase globally from Thursday, 17 July 2025. It will be stocked on PUMA.com, in Puma flagship stores, and at select retailers across South Africa.
