At the beginning of the month, Samsung predicted that Q2 2016 would be its strongest quarter in two years. The South Korean company expected to net an estimated $7 billion in operating profits, with this year's release of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge being one of the main drivers.

As it turns out, Samsung's predictions were fairly accurate, if a little under the mark. The company has confirmed that it yielded an operating profit of 8.14 trillion won (Korea's national currency), which translates to $7.2 billion.

It was the company's mobile division, which has been credited for the majority of the earnings. It was not only the flagship devices showcased at MWC 16 this year, but also the low-end and mid-range offerings that aided, according to Samsung. It is estimated that the company shipped 78 million smartphones during Q2.

As the company heads into the next quarter, it will likely fall to the announcement and release of the Galaxy Note 7 to keep momentum going for Samsung.
