Fresh from its unveiling at IFA 2017 earlier in the month, the Sony Xperia XZ1 is now available locally for pre-order via Takealot. The online retailer has listed a 64 GB (onboard storage) model of the XZ1 in black for pre-order status, noting that consumers who pay the R9 999 asking price before 20 September can expect delivery of their device by 22 September.

Another aspect of the deal to note is that it will only apply to the first 100 units sold. To help sweeten the deal, Takealot will also bundle the pre-order XZ1 with a pair of Sony MDR-XZ110 headphones.

The Xperia XZ1 is one of three devices that Sony debuted in Berlin for IFA 2017, and serves as the company's flagship phone alternative for those who may not be able to afford the Xperia XZ Premium's R14 999 price tag.

In terms of notable features, the XZ1 has a Full HD 5.2" display that's also HDR capable, along with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 CPU, 4 GB of RAM and 19 MP camera with 960 fps slow-mo functionality.

With specifications like that hard to come by for under R10k these days, hopefully Sony Mobile South Africa can ensure the XZ1's price tag can stay at R9 999 when it becomes more widely available.
