The annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) is currently underway in San Francisco, California, and Sony used it as a platform to talk about its PlayStation VR headset. The virtual reality gaming device is slated for release in October in the States and Europe, with a recommended price tag of $399. For now, an arrival on South African shores has not been detailed, especially as demand for a VR headset locally has not been fully gauged.

That said, Sony admits that the launch window is a bit later than it originally planned, most likely as it waits for game studios to fine tune their titles.

Along with a release date and price, Sony also detailed what consumers’ hard earned cash will get them, with the final consumer version featuring a 5.7" OLED display (1920x1080) and 3D audio support. Added to this is 360-degree tracking, as well as a latency of 18 milliseconds, according to Sony.

Furthermore, there is a myriad of content being created for the PlayStation VR, with Sony citing 230 plus developers currently working with it.
