Paint shooter Splatoon was a sleeper hit on the Wii U, adding inventive gameplay and fast-paced action for an all-round good FPS game. The sequel, aptly named Splatoon 2, is on the way later this year, and if you have plans to buy a Nintendo Switch console, you'll get a preview for the game in late March.

Nintendo confirmed the free preview via a video on YouTube, describing an event called Global Testfire. This will allow users to play a beta version of the game over three days for specific one hour sessions from 24 to 26 March.

Part of the preview will be the ability to test out four new weapons, as well as a spectator mode and up to 10 docked systems LAN support.

The dates for the free preview are as follows:

24 March: 22:00-22:59 (SAST)
25 March: 06:00-06:59; 14:00-14:59; 22:00-22:59 (SAST)
26 March: 06:00-06:59; 14:00-14:59 (SAST)
