With the superheroes dominating the cultural landscape, perhaps it’s time to start killing them off. Lucky for us then as the first official trailer drops for The Boys. For those unfamiliar with Gareth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s 2006 creation, think obnoxious superheroes (The Seven) getting their comeuppance from our select group of anti-heroes.

Set up as a clandestine CIA group, The Boys are there to take care of any problematic superheroes, meaning if superheroes start thinking they’re above the law, well The Boys cut them back to size.

If there were any doubts, this new trailer confirms that the series will be carried by one of our favourites, Karl Urban (Dredd) as Billy Butcher, the enigmatic yet no-nonsense leader of The Boys.

The gang also consisting of Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), the Female (Karen Fukuhara), and “Wee" Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid). Wee especially is primed for action since he recently suffered the death of his partner, who, as can be seen in the trailer, was obliterated by speedster superhero A-Train (Jessie T. Usher).

This Amazon Prime series is quite fine with hard violence, gore and the occasional swearing, which was par for course for the comic book. If flying dolphins, the Spice Girls and decapitation by baby with laser-beam eyes are your thing, well, The Boys will be out by 26 July.
