SPOILERS AHEAD! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit cinemas in December later this year, and despite recent complications over the fate of the next Star Wars film, The Last Jedi will be one of the biggest movie events of the year. When the title for the The Last Jedi was first revealed, many pondered what, or rather whom it was in reference to.

Well wonder no longer, as director Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) has confirmed who the last Jedi refers to. In an interview with the New York Times, Johnson said that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is the last Jedi. The director did, however, note that interpretation over who is in fact the last Jedi could very well be up for discussion once moviegoers finish watching the film.

As such, he could very well be referring to Rey (Daisy Ridley), who trains with Luke during the trailer for The Last Jedi. It could also be talking about Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), who was an apprentice of Skywalker's before he led an uprising against his master, succumbing to the dark side of the Force.

Either way, we can't wait to see how this latest chapter in the Star Wars saga unfolds.
