If you've been looking to upgrade your current MacBook or iMac, this latest piece of news will be of interest. According to Bloomberg, Apple has three new Mac devices in the works for this year. While a new batch of notebooks or desktop PCs is nothing new for Apple each year, Bloomberg notes that the upcoming lineup will feature an in-house designed chipset.

If true, it would mark a significant step for the Cupertino-based company, which has up until now only placed its own chips within a handful of non-mobile or wearable devices. This took the form of the 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and most recent iMac Pro.

At this stage it's unclear whether the slated devices for this year will house the same CPU as the previous MacBook Pro or iMac Pro, but given the pomp and circumstance surrounding any Apple device launch, we cannot see why not.

Perhaps more importantly though, the move to include a greater number of self-made chips in their products should mean that Apple is far less reliant on other companies for components. This in turn could ramp up the rollout of new devices each year, and hopefully more powerful products on a regular basis.

With Apple yet to comment on the reports, we'll have to wait and see if this one comes to fruition.
