There are a wealth of free first-person shooter games available on Google Play, but here we narrow it down to a manageable three favourites. These should help mobile gamers blast away boredom via Android-powered smartphones or tablets.

3. Shadowgun: Deadzone

Shadowgun might not be the newest FPS title to be airlifted onto Google Play, but it’s still one of the easiest FPS games to pick up and play one, and one of the better looking titles (especially on Tegra-powered devices). In Deadzone players take part in tactical online multiplayer combat in teams of up to 12, and employ an arsenal of weapons including assault rifles, shotguns, and sniper rifles to dispatch members of the opposite team. Just take note that the game is a hefty 133 MB download and is only compatible with devices that sport at least 512 MB of RAM and run on Android 3.0 Honeycomb or better.

2. Dead Trigger

The gameplay bite from this zombie shooter is particularly contagious and Dead Trigger is certainly one of the more addictive titles within this sub-genre of FPS games. In this visually stunning Tegra 3 optimised FPS game players need to send hordes of undead back to the grave, secure vital supplies and occasionally lend a helping hand to other zombie apocalypse survivors. As with Shadowgun, Dead Trigger weighs in at a data bundle diminishing 156 MB download.

1. Blitz Brigade

Like Shadowgun: Deadzone, Blitz Brigade is an online multiplayer FPS game. Teams of up to 11 mobile gamers have to take out their opposition as one of five different classes (soldier, gunner, medic, sniper, and stealth). As the newest of our FPS mobile contenders, Gameloft’s Blitz Brigade is also the most graphically intensive, requiring a minimum of a 1 GHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM, and modern GPU (iPhone 4 era smartphone or better) just to run properly. It also takes the golden medal in the heftiest download category, tipping the data bundle munching scales at a whopping 1.4 GB.
