Any game developer worth their salt saves their best for E3. As such, here are our Top 5 games that made their debut in Los Angeles this week.

FALLOUT 4

What's it about?

While there have been many games that deal with the struggles that accompany a post-apocalyptic life, few do it as well as the Fallout franchise. Fallout 4, the latest iteration in that series of compelling titles aims to take things a step further, with developers Bethesda Softworks creating their largest gaming world to date.

When it is coming?

Fallout 4 will be released across multiple platforms, with the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC all receiving versions come November 10th. The game is available for pre-order in select countries, but sadly SA has not made the cut. Till then however, you can play Fallout Shelter on iOS for free.

Why we're excited

Along with a massive world, there is also a notable amount of stuff to get stuck into. Most enticing among them is the rich and deep customisation available to gamers. Added to this is the ability to salvage various objects in-game for scrap, and upgrade everything from weapons and buildings, to clothing and your power armour.

DREAMS

What's it about?

While fast-paced shooters and massive RPGs often get the attention at E3, Dreams definitely shakes things up a bit. As the name might allude to, Dreams is a title that takes gamers on a journey, exploring and interacting with fanciful worlds designed not only by developers, Media Molecule but a large online community as well.

When it is coming?

A PS4-exclusive title, sadly no news has been divulged about Dreams' release date, but Media Molecule are expected to make the game available in early 2016. For now, we'll only have the game's trailers to tide us over till more news gets detailed.

Why we're excited

First and foremost, Dreams comes from the same studio behind the Little Big Planet series. As such, expectations are high. Another thing it has going for it, is the fact that we've seen nothing like it before. With the ability to delve into dreamlike worlds that are both vast and greatly detailed, this is one we can't wait to play.

HORIZON: ZERO DAWN

What's it about?

One of the more unique looking games at E3 this year, Horizon Zero Dawn has a bit of everything in it. Set a few centuries into the future, where mankind's advanced civilizations are set to zero, the Zero Dawn sees gamers inhabit the role of Aloy, a young female hunter-gatherer, trying to survive in a beautiful but dangerous world.

When it is coming?

Another PS4-exclusive title, Horizon Zero Dawn's release date remains shrouded in mystery. Developed by Guerilla Games, the company has given the broad window of 2016 for its release, but a more definitive date is unknown.

Why we're excited

Apart from being unique in both its storyline and look, Horizon Zero Dawn features a strong female protagonist at its core, something we've seen far too seldom in recent years. In the six minute gameplay trailer (featured below), the fighting system looked quite intriguing, with slow motion button prompting sequences mixed with some rapid action.

MASS EFFECT: ANDROMEDA

What's it about?

One of the more memorable gaming series in recent history, BioWare has resurrected the Mass Effect franchise with a new title named Andromeda. Perhaps a nod to the galaxy it takes its name from, Andromeda is the latest chapter in the Mass Effect lore, and sees gamers explore an entirely different universe.

When it is coming?

Andromeda is destined to hit next-gen consoles and PCs come Q2 2016. Although a more precise date is unknown, BioWare's track record with previous Mass Effect titles does at least promise plenty of details and videos in coming months.

Why we're excited

Strong in its storytelling, rich in the range of characters and engaging in its gameplay, Mass Effect ticks all the right boxes. With BioWare being on a bit of a streak of late, Andromeda will most likely offer the same kind of gaming, and that's why we’re eagerly awaiting its arrival.

GEARS OF WAR 4

What's it about?

An Xbox 360-exclusive title that undoubtedly boosted the console's sales figures, Gears of War remains one of Microsoft's most treasured gaming gems. Just like previous titles, gamers take the role of a Lancer Assault Rifle-touting fighter, charged with repelling the ever-growing Locust threat. Tense at times, and frantic at others, Gears of War 4 seems to mix up the FPS action nicely.

When it is coming?

The last game to be detailed during Xbox's E3 event, Gears of War 4 also has one of the longest waiting periods, with Q4 2016 penciled in for the Xbox One exclusive's official debut. For now, the gameplay trailer below is our only resource for the game, as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition steals the focus at the moment.

Why we're excited

For one, Gears of War is one of Xbox's premier titles, not to mention that it's some of the best FPS titles we've played in the last five years. For this fourth iteration, it also appears as if we have a new hero and heroine to play as, and hopefully to see live untill the end of the game.
