Over the past weekend, news broke about Twitter's new algorithmic timeline, which ranks tweets according to quality and time of posting. As far as how the latter is accessed, Twitter has remained relatively mum, but it appears to be powered by popularity of the tweets. As such, in between refreshes of your timeline, Twitter's new algorithm will collate the most important tweets and place these at the top of your timeline.

The timeline feature has been met with mixed reactions to date, but The Verge confirms that it will make its way to all Twitter users in coming weeks. At the moment, the algorithmic timeline can be toggled on and off in the settings tab, but Twitter is said to be doing away with that option and making the new timeline feature a mainstay.

How Twitter's user base will react to the long term change remains to be seen, as some users have complained that it splits conversations, while others enjoy the fact that they can catch up with important tweets more easily.
